Privacy at a glance

• No BackStep account is required.
• Version 1.0 does not operate developer analytics, advertising, tracking, or cloud-upload services.
• Projects, recordings, thumbnails, parts, steps, guides, and rebuild progress are stored on your device.
• You decide when to import, export, share, or delete project information.
• Local processing is preferred where supported.

Information stored on your device

BackStep may store project names, notes, categories, recordings, captured frames, marked timestamps, parts, guide steps, capture state, and rebuild progress in the app’s local storage.

This information remains on your device unless you intentionally export or share it using an Apple system share sheet, save an export to Photos, or transfer a compatible project to Apple Vision Pro.

Device permissions

BackStep requests access only when a feature needs it:

• Camera: to record Reverse Capture sessions or show the optional Visual Guide camera view.
• Microphone: only when optional ambient audio recording is enabled for a capture session.
• Photos: only when you choose media to import.
• Add to Photos: only when you choose to save an export.

You can review or change these permissions in Apple Settings. Denying a permission may limit the related feature, but it does not create a BackStep account or send project content to us.

Local analysis and AI

BackStep may use on-device Apple frameworks to suggest important moments or refine editable step wording when those capabilities are available. Manual Mark Step remains available when analysis is unavailable.

Version 1.0 does not send project recordings to a developer-operated AI server. Any future server processing would require an updated product experience, disclosures, and this policy before release.

Purchases

Optional BackStep Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple manages payment and subscription information under Apple’s privacy practices.

BackStep checks Apple-provided product and entitlement status on the device. Ortiz Venture Holdings LLC does not operate a server that receives your payment credentials or project content.

Sharing and project transfer

BackStep shares data only when you initiate an export, system share action, save action, or compatible .backstep project transfer. You choose the destination and are responsible for reviewing the project media included in an export.

Apple or another destination you choose may process the shared file under its own privacy practices.

Deleting information

You can permanently delete an individual project from BackStep. The app is designed to delete that project’s locally stored metadata and associated media without deleting your other projects.

Removing the app through Apple system settings may also remove locally stored app data according to Apple’s platform behavior. Files you previously exported remain wherever you chose to save them and must be deleted from that destination separately.

Children and safety

BackStep is not designed to collect personal information from children, and version 1.0 does not operate a developer-controlled data collection service. Adult supervision and appropriate manufacturer guidance should be used for physical projects.

BackStep records and organizes the process you performed. It is not an authoritative repair manual and does not replace manufacturer instructions or qualified service guidance.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated before BackStep introduces developer-operated accounts, analytics, cloud synchronization, server processing, advertising, or another use of data that changes these disclosures.

The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
